Post the pandemic, India is going through a watershed moment for health insurance. Companies like Pazcare & Healthysure (https://www.healthysure.in) are doing wonders in the space of group health and players like Turtlemint and Renewbuy are differentiating against policybazaar with an alternative agent led model.
Great Article Tar. Beautifully explained the market, new entrants & the risk.
There’s a great influx of new tech startups in insurance and specifically in the health insurance space in India, primarily influenced by the pandemic impact, and partly by the government policies. More companies like LoopHealth & Onsurity are offering similar group health plans like that of Plum. Companies like even & Bright Plan (https://www.brightplan.in) are offering health plans for individuals in this space.
Excellent Article Tar!!! Really loved the detailed explanation of the business.
I know this doubt is not related to business but just like Nykaa , being on of the best new age start up of india , is coming with tremendously high valuation & that leaves very less to retail investors like us after IPO.
1) Do you feel same will be the case of Policybazaar when they list?
2) Business model, addressable market opportunity in future & valuation wise given a chance between Nykaa & policybazaar, which one do you prefer? (of course, not wanting any recommendation but just your thoughts with proper disclaimer!)
I like both, but valuations are a concern for me, so I wont be investing more than a token position in both businesses. At some point in time in future, these businesses will come down to earth in term of their valuations.
I really like this post. It is remarkable among different posts that I've read in a long time. You shake for this alright post. I genuinely welcome it!
Great article. It was a good revision as I had gone through DRHP and there were some points that you have covered that I missed. With regards to Paisabazaar, with so many lending apps in competition, don’t you think it’s going to get difficult to sustain their presence? Also, with Account aggregator service now online, what would be the need yo physically handle the documents for loans and stuff ? I would hope for PB to foray into AA and get rid of the physical process altogether. With respect to Policybazar and other insurance apps, Do you think an exclusivity will start taking shape with the insurers ? Like how certain products are only available on Amazon and some others to Flipkart?
Quite an overview Tar
