Since STT is not paid on Indian exchanges, the investmeng which we make for longer period are considered as other assets which are allowed to be indexed, just like house.
Hi Tariq..Amazing thread and gave clarity for the first time ever. One question that has always bothered me is the exchange rate and associated charges for each direct transaction ( lets say USD 1000) on ICICI and Groww platforms?
Hello Tar , thanks for this detailed thread. I hv few queries if you can help
1. Taxation- for the case where we hold US stock >2 yrs , how indexation benifit applies ( I thought that's for real estate )
2. From depositing money in INR till US stock purchase which broker is fastest ( I think icici takes 3-4 days min ) , your exp with groww as how long it takes when u deposit money till actual buy transaction happen ?
3- are u able to find small/micro caps on groww/indMoney , I think they don't show all listed entities on Nasdaq eg was searching for maxcyte and couldn't find.
4. Can we apply for US IPOs eg case of freshworks , I could see it's only visible to buy on listing day ( so can't we apply before listing like we do in india )
Sir, plz. Make a full details on index fubds. As in index its rebalance after each 6 months then what is the chance of capital loss. Future of index funds. Plz. Make a complete detail or guide on index funds..
Sir i am 17 years old i read your content and have general idea of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis sir can you help me how i develop a portfolio 25 percentage annual return with margin of safety bcz i have fear of loss
Hi Ramkrushna, first of all congratulations for starting early, in compounding time is more important than the money you start with.
Secondly, do not focus on generating 25% annual return at your stage. Since you have just started out, your focus should be on building a system for independent research and investments for yourself. Learn how to analyze a stock and do fundamental research, it will help you and generate more returns than any stock can in the long run.
Focus on learning and building capital at your stage.
I personally do not give any portfolio or stock advice, only publish research via this medium.
Hi. It is so informative and you have taken great pains to inform us about the nitty gritty of investments in foreign stocks. I have become fan of yours once I have seen your presentation in Bloomberg end 2021. It was great and I feel that you are quite transparent. Kudos to your efforts and initiative and I wish you a bright prospects.
Hi Tariq, thx for writing this. I have been trying to understand the risk involved with stocks lying with US broker. have opened account with Groww and IndMoney but didnt get confidence about their US broker. I have now opened account with Interactive broker - they have India arm. Looks safer because ICICI and HDFC apparently have tied up with them. Any views on this ? thanks for sharing
1 more query , if you could share a sample case of say investing 1L rs in a single US stock and selling it after 2-3 years (LTCG case) , what absolute return someone can expect ( just consider a good profit say stock has become 2-3x) , will give us idea on taxation and returns .
Very informative
Hi Tar,
I am bit confused on how indexation works on LTCG tax for international mutual funds. Could you please explain or guide to a good resource?
Also, the article is very helpful. Thanks.

Both NSE and BSE through their exchanges in IFSC (Gift City) have also announced that they will provide access to US stock market to resident Indians.
Well explained and can you give some idea to invest in crypto ??
Thanks for very short yet highly informative article with lot of ideas.
