Have been a bit late in discovering this wonderful website. But might I say such rich content, & that too free! Coming on to Nykaa... You are so very right about the trust Nykaa shares of it's customers. I shop at Nykaa 'coz I trust Ms Nayar (even if I have to pay a few bucks more) & their customer service is excellent. Besides, these days there are so many fake products floating around on Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, etc. Again, would rather shop at Nykaa than getting duped! To sum it up... Customer Loyalty rules at Nykaa!!

Glad to get your first hand experience, I believe their platform is good and because of customer loyalty they can drive network effects and reduce customer acquisition costs even further.

Excellent article Tar! I am a newbie investor and got to understand Nykaa’s business very well through your great research & writing! Thanks a lot…

Just a doubt, if and when the government imposes the rule for an e-commerce platform not to sell their private labels, would Nykaa still can manage to sell their private labels through their off-line fashion shops and still would get benefited a little? As you’ve mentioned, they outsource all their private label product production, so their capital will be intact, right? But, yes, their profit may see some downfall.

What do you think their strategy would be in that case? And it’s a threat to Amazon as well.

Please share some more thoughts on this…

Also, It’s good to know that Myntra like competitors won’t be able to withstand the power of Nykaa’s platform!

Thank you for reading Rajaram. I think in that case Nykaa will definitely come up with some sort of a loophole. Its hard to opine right now considering the Govt has only indicated at such a regulation and nothing has been released till date on it.
